Computer Science and Engineering

2024 Year in Review

A note from the Chair

Greetings from CSE at the University of Michigan!

As 2024 comes to a close, we are focused on shaping the future of computing and benefiting the world through excellence in education and research.

This report spotlights just a bit of what has made this such an exciting year to be a computer scientist at Michigan – with new featured content on AI for accessibility, the development of an architecture for universal pathogen detection, the rise of the theory group at Michigan, and a program led by a computer scientist to build a hands-on computing curriculum for students in the humanities and sciences.

We also introduce you to our nine new faculty and provide sampling of notable stories from 2024.

I am proud of what CSE is accomplishing and look forward to another year of collaboration, exploration, and impact.
